Unsolicited voicemail from 877 299 9458 as follows:
“Please call 877-299-9458. I repeat 877-299-9458. Thank you. This call is in regards to the security software we installed on your computer last time now we see a red flag on it and staying there is a security breach on it. Please call 877-299-9458. I repeat 877-299-9458. Thank you. This call is in regards to the security software we installed on your computer last time now we see a red flag on it and staying there is a security breach on it. Please call 877-299-9458. I repeat 877-299-9458. Thank you.”
Upon calling the number, the call is answered by a call-taker with a foreign accent.
Call-taker “verifies” that the phone number you’re calling from is the number they called – even though it isn’t.
Call-taker states that they’re from the same (nameless) technical support company as “last time”, and that your computer software sent a red-flag to their system and it needs to be fixed.
Call-taker hurries through and works to get onto your computer.
This is a SCAM. “Technical support” will gain access to your computer, and push you for your financial information. Once given access to your computer, the scammer will lock it and force you to pay to get access again.
A sadly common scam.
NEVER give access to your computer to unsolicited, unknown companies.
NEVER give your financial information over the telephone.
If you suspect there is an issue with your computer, contact a reputable, local computer professional.
