West Mifflin, Allegheny County – On Saturday May 2, 2015 @ 2058 hours West Mifflin Police Department responded to the Park for a disturbance. Details were that they had multiple youth twelve to seventeen running around the park and the parking lot area causing annoyance, disruption, and commotion. It was reported that some of the groups were involved in fighting altercations as well. At least twenty four police agencies responded to the park to assist in quelling the disturbance.
As a result of the incident the West Mifflin Police Department did open an investigation. Detectives diligently reviewed Park video, private video submitted by patrons of the park, and video on multiple Social Media forms. They identified persons of interest and proceeded to determine culpability of those persons that were identified.
On Wednesday May 20, 2015 our department filed criminal allegation papers with the Juvenile court system for various summery and misdemeanor charges against nine (9) juveniles that took part in the incident. The investigation has not been closed in this incident and West Mifflin Police anticipate the possibility of several additional arrests.
We also continue to work with the Park monitoring Key Social Media Streams, increasing a police presence on site with foot patrol, mobile assistance and undercover operation. Kennywood Park has officially made available a West Mifflin Police Sub Station, on Park grounds to assist with improved departmental presence.
