Charlottesville, VA – March 5, 2015 –Roller Coaster Race announced that its original-concept race is coming to Kennywood Amusement Park, located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, June 6. The collaborative event encourages fitness and entertainment for the entire family by holding professional, USATF-sanctioned running events for all skill levels and ages in conjunction with a novel roller coaster event, Roller Coaster Ride.
Participants can register for either the 10K race or the 5K run/walk, which start at 8:30 am. Event registration includes park admission, shirt, finisher medal, and an exclusive 30-minutes of ride time on the Sky Rocket coaster before the park opens. The race courses offer a distinct perspective of the historic park by giving participants the opportunity to run around its iconic roller coasters. A portion of the 10K route will also pass through nearby communities.
Additionally, roller coaster enthusiasts and runners alike can sign up for the optional Roller Coaster Ride for a separate fee. Participants who register for the Roller Coaster Ride earn a medal by racking up a cumulative “5K ride distance” on Kennywood’s seven roller coasters. Adam Slate, Roller Coaster Race Director, states, “Pittsburgh loves both Kennywood and running, making this the ideal setting for a Roller Coaster Race. The response to the event has been extraordinary and we are grateful for the warm welcome from the community.”
Roller Coaster Race supports the following charities through its fundraising program: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh, SYTA Running for Youth, and the National Roller Coaster Museum & Archives. Additionally, runners and riders can make donations during event registration or by visiting the Charities page on the Roller Coaster Race web site.
“The Roller Coaster Race and Roller Coaster Ride provide participants the chance to create all-new Kennywood memories,” said Jerome Gibas, Kennywood General Manager. “Combining fitness, fun and fundraising for deserving non-profits will make for a great event.”
