West Mifflin, like most of Allegheny County municipalities, is dealing with theft from vehicles parked outside overnight.
We have had 66 vehicles that have been entered and items taken since the beginning of the year. In less than 1% of these cases, the car was locked. All other cases are crimes of opportunity and are unlocked vehicles.
We have also made 5 arrests with persons involved with this activity since the first of the year. We continue to be proactive with our patrol to prevent or arrest persons responsible for this type of activity. We have Pin mapped the zones and graphed occurrences to aid in this enforcement. We have and will continue to target areas with extra patrol in both marked and unmarked vehicles.
PLEASE lock your vehicles and remove all valuables, Keys, handguns or other weapons, from the car and if possible keep it in a well-lit area.
